2025 Chief Registrars
The Chief Registrars are the peak representative body for the Junior Medical Staff through the Junior Medical Advisory and Co-design Committee (JMARC) and their links to the Program and Executive. We encourage all JMS to seek out the Chief Registrars – they are all very friendly!

Anaesthetics - Lily Poulier
I’m one of the anaesthetic fellows this year, having spent nearly all my anaesthetic training and pre-vocational years at Monash Health. I’m a mum of two boys, had my kids through training (post fellowship exam photo!) and work part-time to help me have some semblance of work-life balance. Raising children is the hardest work you’ll ever love doing, and I love coming to work where I get to enjoy a hot solo coffee, socialise with adults, stimulate my brain and bask in the tranquility of gently beeping monitors and puffing ventilators. I also love returning to my cuddly embodiments of chaos after satisfying my need for (brief moments of) control and order.

Anaesthetics - Catherine Smale
I started out as a junior doctor working in Bendigo where I initially started ED training before joining Monash Health as an anaesthetics registrar in 2021. Outside of work I love spending time with my family and friends, listening to audiobooks and spending time in nature.

Children’s (Paediatrics) - Sam Bush
Originally from New Zealand, I moved to Australia to complete my Advanced Training in Paediatrics and am the Chief RMO at Monash Children’s Hospital for 2025. Outside of work, I enjoy travelling, hiking, diving and learning to speak bad French.

Diagnostic Imaging - Michael Phan
I started at Monash in 2019 as an intern and have been here since. Outside of work I enjoy playing badminton, bouldering, and running.

Emergency - Stephanie Ferguson
I enjoy spending time with my partner Tim (an ICU Senior Reg) and my 4yo daughter Charli. We love the beach and spending lots of time outdoors. We just completed our first camping trip together, which was amazing fun! I also volunteer as a member of Charli’s Kinder parent committee & life has been a huge juggle between shift work, two training programs, exams and spending as much time with Charli as possible. Sadly I haven’t resumed my previous hobbies of Horse Riding & playing Netball for these reasons since Charli was born. Now that we have finished/are in-between exams I am looking forward to multiple holidays we have planned this year and spending time prioritising our family.

Emergency - Emily Libecans
I graduated from a medical school in London and moved to Melbourne after my internship. I am about halfway through my ED training. I now have two boys, aged 2.5 and 5 who keep me busy outside of work. Me-time is either in the gym or indulging in Melbourne’s world class drinks, dining and live music scene!

Emergency - Khazmira Bashah
I’m currently working as a senior registrar in ED and will be based at MMC for 9 months then 3 months in Paeds ED. I recently passed my written fellowship (yay!) and will be doing my OSCE in September. There hasn’t been a lot of “life outside of work” recently but I love travelling, trying new foods and free diving and exercise. My happy place is a small fishing village in Türkiye called Foça, sipping on tea watching the world pass by!

General Medicine - Hilda Lam
I’ll be in my final year of General Medicine training in 2025, and had been with Monash since 2021. Having worked across the network, I understand that idiosyncrasies unique to each Monash site. Outside of work you can catch me going to yoga/pilates, trying new restaurants, or going on a day hike.

General Medicine - Katherine Blair-West
I’m Kate, one of the general medicine chief registrars for 2025. I am a second-year general medicine advanced trainee and have been at Monash Health since my internship in 2019. At work, I enjoy managing diagnostic dilemmas and complex multimorbid patients as well as supporting and teaching junior medical staff and medical students. In my free time, I love being active in the sunshine, spending time with family and friends, cooking, eating and doting on my stray cat Cecil.

Intensive Care (DDH/Casey) - Jonathan Devine
I’m Jonathan, some people know me as JD. I’m an Intensive Care Medical Trainee with experience in Acute Medicine, Clinical Anaesthesia and Intensive Care across Monash Health. I’m also the Simulation Fellow at Monash Health Simulation and I’m passionate about simulation education and integrating simulation at the bedside. My special interests include crisis resource management, leadership and communication.
I enjoy all aspects of Intensive Care Medicine, in particular spending time with patients and their families, helping them navigate through the complexities of the Intensive Care Unit as part of their patient journey, and providing critical care in a timely manner.
When not at the patient bedside in Intensive Care or helping multi-disciplinary teams optimise their performances at Monash Simulation, I can be found spending time with my family or on my bicycle.
Please reach out to me for any issues or ideas to help make Monash Health an even better place for each other and our patients.

Intensive Care (MMC/VHH) - Nazma Navilehal Rajasab
I’m an IMG, trained as a physician in India, lived and worked in UK before calling Australia home. I transitioned to intensive care medicine several years ago and never looked back. I aspire to be an intensivist and contribute to the specialty in the ways I can. I’m lively, positive, hardworking, inquisitive and focus on progressing and learning each day. I love my life outside work as much and mostly indulge in outdoor activities such as hikes, walks, gardening, mingling with friends. I also have a keen interest in art, particularly portraits and water colours. Overall, I like to keep myself busy and enjoy the process.
Mental Health - Khezia Chalwe

Pathology - Ken Wan
I have always been fascinated by research and laboratory sciences from a young age. The field of medicine is vast and varied, allowing individuals to discover their true calling. I feel like, Pathology, particularly Biochemistry and Genetics, serendipitously chose me!
I joined Monash as a Chemical Pathology Registrar from 2018 to 2021 and returned in 2024 as a Genetic Pathology Registrar. I am privileged to be employed as the first Specialist Training Program (STP)-funded Genetic Pathology Registrar at Monash Health Pathology.
Beyond my professional pursuits, I enjoy quiet walks in the reserve, hiking, travelling and has a keen interest in astronomy.

Outside of work, I enjoy scuba diving and traveling abroad.

Hi! I'm Gabby, one of the Specialty Medicine Co-Chief Registrars for 2025. I'm thrilled to be stepping into this role, as well as my first year of Nephrology advanced training after being with Monash Health since internship in 2019. Aged and Rehab - Aishwarya Kirubasankar

Surgery - Joseph Jaya
I am Joe, I'm a general surgery trainee through Monash Health. I have been working at Monash Health since 2016. I also studied at Monash University and spent the majority of my clinical years at Monash Health. I feel like I've been here forever! I'm taking some time away from clinical training for the next few years to complete a PhD in hepatopancreaticobiliary surgery looking at small measures to improve the care and quality of life for patients with hilar cholangiocarcinoma. When I'm not at work (not that often), I can be found enjoying the underwater flora and fauna with my wife as we're both keen SCUBA divers. I also enjoy keeping healthy at the gym and cycling. Did I tell you I love a good strong coffee?

Monash Women's - Estelle Blair-Holt
I’m one of those people that rocks up to work in gym gear following an early morning gym or pilates session. Morning exercise is my medicine and I cherish watching the sun rise with a cup of coffee as the day starts.

Monash Newborn - RJ Seastres
I’m a Neonatal Fellow at Monash Newborn and an Advanced Trainee in Neonatal and Perinatal Medicine with the Royal Australasian College of Physicians.
I am passionate about public health and global health. Coming from the Philippines, I know firsthand that health equity, or inequity, is an important issue that must be addressed by society. My goal would be to combine this passion with my clinical practice in the future - advocating for equitable healthcare for all.
I also love performing and being creative. I can usually be heard belting out musical theatre songs or singing along to my guitar with songs I’ve written myself. I bet a karaoke bar hates to see me coming. I also used to be semi-trained dancer (but I’m nowhere near as flexible anymore) and almost pursued a career in acting before getting into medicine. It’s safe to say that I’m quite enthusiastic and dramatic in person!
