2024 Chief Registrars
The Chief Registrars are the peak representative body for the Junior Medical Staff through the Junior Medical Advisory and Co-design Committee (JMARC) and their links to the Program and Executive. We encourage all JMS to seek out the Chief Registrars – they are all very friendly!

Anaesthetics - Tyler Goodall
Hey! I’m Tyler, one of the 4th Year Anaesthetic Registrars. I started here as a medical student and have been at Monash Health ever since. Having worked across all the sites, I’m aware of the particular challenges the network faces and the comradery it offers. Outside of work you can find me at the snow or doing some sort of DIY project. As chief registrar I hope to foster an infectious and productive positive attitude across the workplace. Grab me anytime for a chat!

Hi, I’m Dan – one of the two Paediatric chief registrars for 2024. Now a final-year advanced trainee in paeds – and dual training in palliative medicine – I’m passionate about communication, workplace culture, and JMS wellbeing. I’m looking very much forward to meeting and working with all of our 2024 trainees – stop by my desk or send me an email anytime to catch up!

Hi! I'm Steph. One of the senior registrars and co-chief registrar for ED this year. This is my second year at Monash, and I'm excited to work with the wider JMARC community as a representative for the ED team of doctors. My aim is to foster an approachable and positive environment for all those within ED, as well as other departments to increase collaboration and cohesiveness across the network. Don't hesitate to get in touch if you want to chat! Outside of work I love the travel and spend time at the beach, especially with my dog!
General Medicine - Duncan Kajewski
Hi! I’m Duncan, one of the General Medical Co-Chief Registrars for 2024. I am excited to be stepping into advanced physician training this year, after being a Monash Health junior doctor since internship in 2020. My interests include medical education, promoting a healthy workplace culture and identifying systemic factors which influence patient care. Outside of work, I enjoy board games, music, reading, travel and daydreaming about an inevitable 2024 Carlton grand final win.
General medicine can be chaotic, intense, interesting, exhausting and rewarding. For the hundreds of junior medical staff who have a general medical rotation this year, Sharon and I hope that we can make it as an enjoyable experience as possible. Please reach out if you have any suggestions, questions or require further support. Would love to have a chat or coffee!

Intensive Care (DDH/Casey) - Jonathan Devine
I’m Jonathan, some people know me as JD. I’m an Intensive Care Medical Trainee with experience in Acute Medicine, Clinical Anaesthesia and Intensive Care across Monash Health. I’m also the Simulation Fellow at Monash Health Simulation and I’m passionate about simulation education and integrating simulation at the bedside. My special interests include crisis resource management, leadership and communication.
I enjoy all aspects of Intensive Care Medicine, in particular spending time with patients and their families, helping them navigate through the complexities of the Intensive Care Unit as part of their patient journey, and providing critical care in a timely manner.
When not at the patient bedside in Intensive Care or helping multi-disciplinary teams optimise their performances at Monash Simulation, I can be found spending time with my family or on my bicycle.
Please reach out to me for any issues or ideas to help make Monash Health an even better place for each other and our patients.

Mental Health - Thomas Eckert
My name is Tom and I am the chief registrar for the Monash mental health program for 2024. I am one of the psychotherapy advanced trainees and have been working at Monash Health since 2020. Working in health and providing care to patients can be a complex emotional experience and this is an area of interest of mine and something I want to make explicit. I want to support JMS with their experience working in healthcare and reduce the effects of burnout and moral injury by addressing the root source of these problems. If any JMS from any department are seeking support, advice or have suggestions to improve the service, please feel free to get in touch with me.

Please feel free to contact me with any queries or to arrange a visit to our friendly department.
Specialty Medicine - Rohan Khanal
Hi everyone! I'm Rohan and I'm one of the Specialty Medicine Chief Registrars as well as being one of the renal registrars. I'm returning to Monash Health after a year away for training, but have otherwise been here since 2015 as a medical student, intern, resident and BPT registrar. I'm passionate about medical education and one of my key goals is to improve our healthcare system structure to improve the experience for both junior doctors as well as patients. I'm more than happy to be contacted if you've got any suggestions to improve our health network, want to ask about physician or renal training or if you just want to chat. Outside of work, I'm probably passionately following any random sporting event, trying to get more leave to go traveling or enjoying trying different restaurants/cuisines.
Specialty Medicine - Emily Lin
Hi, I'm Emily one of the Rheumatology Registrars this year. I like to say I’m a Monash bred and born doctor and am passionate about good communication, fostering positive workplace environments and optimising teamwork. One of my favourite things about Monash is the culture and sense of camaraderie amongst colleagues and I hope to do everything I can to perpetuate this. In particular I am passionate about supporting students/interns/HMOs and BPTs throughout their training and am open for a chat anytime. In particular I am always interested in hearing about junior doctors’ experiences and suggestions for improvement or even if you just need a good old rant.

Hi everyone,
I am Eugene, one of the Co-Chief Registrars for Aged & Rehabilitation at the Kingston Centre. I enjoy working with teams and fostering a workplace environment that is safe, supported and enjoyable for all our junior doctors and non-medical colleagues, which in turn improves patient care. Outside of medicine I have my hands full with two very young daughters who can be more delirious than my patients with BPSD! I look forward to meeting you on my travels and always keen for a chat to hear about your experiences.

Monash Women's - Niamh Aherne
Hi, I am the Chief Registrar for Monash Women’s for 2024. I have been part of Monash Women’s since I started as an unaccredited registrar in 2017. I am starting my final year of RANZCOG Advanced Training and will working part-time in Casey Hospital this year. I am proud to be representing and advocating for the over 100 JMS in our department in 2024.
Obstetrics and Gynaecology is a very rewarding, but often stressful and intense career. Supporting JMS welling and prioritising training are very important to me. I also look forward to focusing on quality and safety in our department, as we strive for excellence in our care of the women and families of the South East.
When not at work I can be found pretending to still have a life whilst juggling a baby, a toddler, and life as a Senior O+G Registrar. Please feel free to contact me throughout the year with any queries and I’ll do my best to help.
Monash Newborn - Scott Stansfield
Hi I’m Scott, neonatology fellow and Chief Registrar in the Newborns unit for 2024. I’ve been at Monash Health since I was a HMO in 2015. Monash Newborn in particular holds a special place for me, having started my paediatric training with the unit in 2017. Neonatology is a fabulous specialty, only made better by working closely with our colleagues in paediatrics and obstetrics. Teamwork is so important in all the work that we do and I am excited to working with you to grow our team further.
