I’ve now been here a month, and what a month it has been!
It has been wonderful and exciting, and daunting and busy, but mainly it has been a pleasure to work in an organisation that is focused on excellence in patient care and looking after our community.
I have just moved back to Melbourne after living in Perth for nine years, and yes, I do miss the sunny weather already.
Whilst in Perth I was Executive Director of Sir Charles Gairdner Hospital, affectionately known as “Charlies”, and loved the challenges of patient care and safety, patient flow, and the hectic nature of the hospital environment.
The opportunity to work with the Department of Health as the Director of the Office of Safety and Quality and as the Clinical Lead to the Activity Based Funding Program was the ideal opportunity to develop state-wide programs to improve patient outcomes, and ensure that the new funding reforms included patient safety as a core component.
Interestingly, the Monash Health catchment is not new to me.
As many of you know, I did my early years as an intern and resident medical officer at Dandenong Hospital. I subsequently completed my General Practice training in Noble Park and Mulgrave.
The 10 years I spent in the area was some time ago and the area has grown such a lot since.
As Executive Director for Strategy, Quality and Performance, I can confirm there is a great deal happening.
The development of the Monash Health Strategic Service Plan is well underway, and will bring together strategies and directions identified in service plans for sites and programs, and define our future service and planning priorities for the next five to 10 years.
Accreditation is now into the sustainability phase, and we need to stay focused on keeping the momentum going and ensuring that we are doing the best we can to provide patient centred care.
2015 will be an exciting time at Monash Health. There are a lot of opportunities arising as a result of the incoming State Government and we will need to work together and with the community to ensure we can continue to evolve and provide the best possible health outcomes to our patients.
I wish you, your family and friends a happy, healthy and safe festive season and look forward to working with you all in 2015.
